Are the waters safe for swimming and snorkeling?

I am intending to visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, but I am worried about the quality of water and the safety of sharks. I heard that the islands are beautiful in beaches and landscapes, but there might be some hazards such as strong currents and marine life. I heard that Andaman group tour packages are able to make the trip more comfortable and safe. I am also thinking of a boat tour to visit wild places and view wildlife. The experience might be more authentic and less noisy as staying in a hotel outside of the main town. The islands have the reputation of having coral reefs and I would enjoy snorkeling and seeing marine life. I also plan to visit the villages of the island to have the local lifestyle of the island.
