What does the tax code 1257L cover?

Many employees who get the normal tax-free Personal Allowance in the UK use the 1257L tax code. This means you are allowed to earn £12,570 in a tax year (2024/25) before taxes are deducted. Having an "L" shows that you can get the standard tax-free amount. Based on your code, your taxes are deducted from your salary through PAYE (Pay As You Earn). A tax code of LI means things are generally simple with your taxes.
